Evolving Ownership of US Timberlands: Strategies for Conserving the Forest
As forestland ownership is shifting away from industrial forest product companies, a need is arising for a better understanding of how land use changes will effect forest conservation. To facilitate this greater understanding, the Manomet Center for Conservation published a report entitled "Changing Timberland Ownership in the Northern Forest and Implications for Biodiversity" and the conference "Who Will Own the Forest?"
The Pinchot Institute, with the Manomet Center and Yale Forest Forum, are convening a forum for leaders from the conservation community, investor timberland owners, government, the forest products industry, and academia to discuss possible implications of land use changes and where information is lacking. The outcome of the forum should produce recommendations on policy tools and new methods of collaboration that can prevent private forestland from conversion to a mosaic of developed landscapes.
