The Pinchot Institute for Conservation hosted an informal forum with new Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell on September 2, 2009 with representatives from the local Washington, DC conservation community. The participants were offered the opportunity to provide their perspective on issues likely to influence the conservation and sustainable management of the nation's forest in the foreseeable future. Mr. Tidwell briefly outlined the Forest Service's emerging priorities for addressing the challenges now facing forest conservation on both public and private lands, and addressed both questions and suggestions on those challenges and priorities.

The main topics of the event centered on land conservation and restoration, energy, climate, water and Forest Service organization.
