Community Forestry Week in Washington
In the spring of each year, we work in partnership with American Forests, the Communities Committee, and the National Network of Forest Practitioners to deliver this week-long training program. It is aimed at enlightening people working on the ground in community-based forestry on the elements of the federal forest policy-making process, including legislative, budgetary, and administrative procedures,as well as, teach them how to influence policy decisions.
Collaboration 201
In tandem with the National Partnership Office of the USDA Forest Service, we created a training module, entitled "Collaboration 201," which was test-run at the June 2006 Forest Service Annual Partnership Meeting in South Lake Tahoe, CA. This instructional tool was developed to educate both agency and non-agency entities on the meaning of collaboration in a forest management context and how it might be carried out in the field. Collaboration in Stewardship Contracting
In 2005, we developed a series of regionally-specific training modules to instruct agency and non-agency interests how best to collaborate within a stewardship contract (e.g., project design, implementation, and monitoring). These modules were field tested throughout the summer of 2005 and are now a part of agency-led training sessions. For more information on these training resources, contact Jacob Donnay.
International Trends in Community-Based Resource Management
In partnership with the National Network of Forest Practitioners, the USDA Forest Service, USAID and the Ford Foundation, we organized and facilitated a unique cross-cultural exchange of persons currently engaged in community-based management of forests. The workshop, which was 1-week in length, brought a variety of countries together to discuss context behind existing policy, management techniques, and social trends.
