Forest Carbon Conservation and Management

V. Alaric Sample et al (2015)

V. Alaric Sample, Richard Birdsey, Richard A. Houghton, Chris Swanston,

David Hollinger, Mike Dockry, and Pete Bettinger (2015)

How can forests store more carbon while continuing to provide timber, wildlife habitat, clean water, and other benefits? This discussion paper examines how carbon conservation can be integrated into sustainable forest management on commercial timberlands, family woodlands, and public forests. Drawing on research and management examples, it explores carbon accounting, harvesting practices, climate adaptation, and tradeoffs among management objectives. The report emphasizes planning across landscapes and over time, offering a 2015 perspective on aligning forest stewardship with climate mitigation.
